I have a pentium 4 3.2 ghz prescott. I'm im idling at about 45 celsius and everytime i try to play a game it will run for a few mins then shut off. When I play games it would go up to 65 Celsius. Is the cpu overheating? I read somewhere that weak power supplys can cause this.
My psu is 400 W and has 10 amps on the +12v rail. I read that you need at least 18 amps for a prescott.
Try looking for something with upwards of 30 amps on the 12v.
Bad power supplies are a huge cause of instability and even potential hardware damage.
A 10 amp 12v circuit in a 400w PSU is almost hard to believe.
I don't know how you're even managing to boot to Windows......
The over-heating is probably not related (actually those temperatures aren't that shocking to me - I have three Prescott based systems).
Have you blown the fluff out of the inside of your PC recently?
Yeah I cleaned the case 2 days ago, and no effect. I noticed that the PSU is crap today when I read some other forums where people had same problems as me. Is the psu really that bad? +5 rail has 20 amps.
