Can I replace a Intel 4 SL7E2 2.80 GHZ/533MHZ with a SL7E3 2.80GHZ/800MHZ? The power supply ,ram and Hard drive have all been upgraded.
The current cpu is showing 100 % usage at times and has been slow.I have sl7e3 from another unit .The PC is a Dell Dimensions 4600.
There are two models of the Dimension 4600. One has an integrated video card (integrated on the motherboard) and one has a physical video card. Which model do you have?
How do I go about finding a software problem?I ran all the diagnostic tools that I have.
I must add that the SL7E2 CPU was a used replacement .It came with a SL7E2 that failed.
Right click an empty area of the task bar
Select start task mgr
Select processes tab at the top
Next click cpu to bring the highest usage to the top of the list.
You may have to click it again if it sorts the lowest first
Post back with the name of the process that has the high cpu usage.
Tea timer came with Spybot Search and Destroy right? Uninstall Spybot in the Add/Remove Programs. Reinstall Spybot, Uncheck TeaTimer, Viola goodbye teatimer. I hate that program. It's very system intensive. I had to remove it myself
Right ,I see the CPU usage now. JQS.exe system is the one that goes up when it spikes to 100%.Sorry I took so long on getting back ,had to leave for awhile.
I appreciate your input. Removed Java rebooted and re-installed. While doing this cpu usage went to 100% and I didn't think it was going to load. The following were high usage
capfsem.exe ,capw.exe,msiexec.exe,cctray.exe
The jqs.exe is still spiking and I now have Bing search engine. Came with the Java.Right now the usage is 0%,just did a quick spike to 100% jsq.exe

I must have, I don't see it on the list. Eyes aren't as good as they used to be.
The only thing that is spiking as i write this is the JQS.EXE. The spike is for a short time less than 5 seconds. Is a spike normal?
It spikes without IE but when I open explorer it uses a good % to open.If it spikes then it stays at 100% for some time and IE takes along time to open. I guess thats my biggest concern. When the CPU is at 100% usage the PC is very slow doing anything.
I don't want to go on and on about it ,taking your time or others . I just thought the CPU was causing the problem. It is frustrating to be so slow but I can live with it ,as long as it keeps working. If it is a software problem I would like to know what it is and how to correct it. Thanks for your help.
Open IE
go to tools
manage add on
there is a load times column there....sometimes an outdated java add on can cause problems
Look for java plug in 2 ssv helper...if it exists..disable it
found the addon , disabled it and it went away. jqs is Still spiking.
I did see ajqsiestardetectorimp that is enabled .Sure am learning things never new were there.
I had made an error several posts back, stating jqs was for updates,it is for java quick start.
It doesnt need to be running at start up
Go to Run
Type in Msconfig
Go to the startup tab
Uncheck the java quick start
Hit apply
Reboot
Disregard the information window regarding the start up change upon reboot
OK did what you instructed. Spikes were gone then AAWservice.exe started spiking .After a few minutes it stopped .I watched the chart for 5 min. and no spikes above 15%. Checked again looks good. Will this come back again if I use Java? Thanks for your time, patience and intelligent input.
loaded fine, everything good to go. Machine working much better.Thank You
