CPU running at wrong speed

    Would be great if anyone has any ideas why my Athlon64 3700 is showing varying clock speeds. Sometimes as low as 900 Mhz or so. :confused:

    Possibly because the Cool'n'Quiet feature of the Athlon64 is varying the clock speed depending on the processor load?

    That is correct. I always disable C&Q. The chips run so cool that it is not needed IMO.

    BTW most bios have C&Q disabled by default. Not only do you have to enable it in the bios, you must load a driver [usually only available for xp]

    Excuse the ignorance, but i cant see any mention of "cool&quiet" when i go into the bios.

    Each bios is a little different. Check your manual for the exact location. It might be under cpu setup or under something PC Health.
