I am working on a new build and I am concerned about the cpu temp.

At the moment, I have the system only posted into bios. The new Gigabyte board has a cpu temp monitor that I am looking at on the bios screen. I do not have any other hardware or software installed or running and the temp is 42C.

The cpu is a celeron 2.93 gig. I have an "Ultra" brand aluminum heatsink with silver thermal paste applied. The ambient temperature her in my basement at the moment is 60 degrees F. The side cover to the case is off and I have one 93mm case fan running along with the CPU fan.

I'm thinking that 42c IDLE , with such a low room temperature seems high.....

That isn't high at all, given that the Celeron 2.93GHz dissipates 73W* (Socket478) or 84W* (Socket775), that's the same as an Athlon64 3500+.

    * this is the thermal design power, the maximum power dissipation is higher
