    present CPU is T2300 running at 667 MHz FSB;

    intend to upgrade it to either T7100 or T7300 running at 800 MHz FSB;
    will the notebook boot ?

    Modern laptops are not designed to have their processors upgraded. The motherboards are proprietary, so unless Lenovo guarantees the processor will work, it may not. You will probably also have a heat problem since laptops are designed from the ground up for efficient cooling.

    A processor upgrade is not likely to make much of a difference in performance on a laptop, and the risks are significant.

    If you want to improve performance, upgrade to a solid state hard drive.

    I am not looking for performance but instead a CPU that supports VT

    I don't think that's a function solely of the processor. I think the chipset and motherboard factor into hardware virtualization support.

    The 945PM chipset only supports processors with a 533MHz. or 667MHz. FSB.

    that's why I am surprised at the CPUs

    T7100/T7300/T7500 run at 800 while

    T7200/T7400/T7600 run at 667
