I'm glad I was able to get here, it took 2 minutes to open Firefox.
For the past 3 days I have not restarted my laptop until today. After restarting it began start up then the cpu usage would spike to 100% and stay there. Everything runs super slow and programs crash if I try to open more than one at a time. I noticed that the following processes seem to use the most cpu:
xboxstat.exe
QLBCTRL.exe
ctfmon.exe
hpqthb08.exe

I don't understand why after restarting, the computer just decided to misbehave. I need this computer to run normally. Thank you.

Go to: Start > Run > type "msconfig" and press enter. Go to the "Startup" tab uncheck anything you don't need.

If you want, just post the name of everything that's checked, and I'll take a look at it.

Now that I look at this I notice some unusual (to me) things;

The name of one item is, "dumprep 0 -k" and the command is, "%systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -k"
and one entry is completely blank except for the location.
----
I'm rushed for time right now more info in 2.5 hours.

Umm, the name is "-----------------"? Is there anything else? Also the blank one, I have one just like that, and I unchecked it a while ago, and so far no problems.

I suggest you contact a malware expert
While dumprep 0 -k --------- %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -k is innocuous (this is the command to write debugging information for software and driver debugging by the author; to disable it go to control panel => system => advanced => startup and recovery => settings
Change "Write debugging information " to "NONE"

But this entry
NAME: ------------- COMMAND:
and a totally blank line smack of a virus.

*Oops, looks like I confused you guys, post is fixed.*

Ok, I just figured out why I have all of a sudden have issues. I recently uninstalled MS Visual Studios 05 and then restarted. After that restart is when I got problems. I know this know because I received errors like "Just-In-Time debugger has encountered an unhandled win32 thing. To adjust, go to tools, blah, blah, in Visual Studios." The program is uninstalled so I cant fix it though the menu. I have also got an error, like "C:recycled/boot.exe failed", and "ialmrnt5 display driver has failed."

EDIT: It looks like boot.exe is a virus.

EDIT 2: I reinstalled V.S. '05 and computer is back to normal. I don't know if I should uninstall again or leave it on.

Download and install Trend Micro HijackThis 2.0.2, but don't run a scan with it yet.

Click Start - Run, type in MSCONFIG and then click OK - "Startup" tab. Make sure that all entries are checked, click Apply - OK, then restart your computer.

Run a scan with HijackThis, then post the entire log here.

What immediately caught my attention in your O4 startup list was the first entry:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [C:\WINDOWS\system32\kdsrx.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\kdsrx.exe

http://research.sunbelt-software.co...me=Trojan.Win32.DNSChanger.in&threatid=128157

Click the "Report" link and request a Moderator move your thread to the "Malware - HijackThis Log" section.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Once you get the "nasties" problem in your computer dealt with, make use of this site to research your startup list and get it trimmed down of all those unnecessary running programs.

Please print these instructions for reference, as you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Please download FixWareout from Here or Here.

Note: You will need to run this tool while having an Internet Connection. The tool will download other files while running.
  1. Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
  2. The fix will begin; follow the prompts.
  3. If your firewall gives an alert, (because this tool will download an additional files from the internet), please don't let your firewall block it, but allow it instead.
  4. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.
  5. Once the desktop loads a text file will open (report.txt).
Please post the C:\fixwareout\report.txt ), along with a new HijackThis log into this topic.

Please visit Combofix Guide & Instructions for instructions for installing the recovery console and downloading and running ComboFix.

The only thing different from the instructions there is that when downloading and saving the ComboFix.exe I would like you to rename it to Combo-Fix.exe please.

Post the log from ComboFix when you've accomplished that along with a new HijackThis log.

Important notes regarding ComboFix:

ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making it the default browser. This can easily be changed once we're finished.

ComboFix also prevents autorun of ALL CDs, floppies and USB devices to assist with malware removal & increase security. If this is an issue or makes it difficult for you, please let me know. This can be undone manually when we're finished.

Try this and then see if you can access that page please.

Download the HostsXpert 4.2 - Hosts File Manager.
  • Unzip HostsXpert 4.2 - Hosts File Manager to a convenient folder such as C:\HostsXpert 4.2 - Hosts File Manager
  • Run HostsXpert 4.2 - Hosts File Manager from its new home
  • Click on "File Handling".
  • Click on "Restore MS Hosts File".
  • Click OK on the Confirmation box.
  • Click on "Make Read Only?"
  • Click the X to exit the program.
  • Note: If you were using a custom Hosts file you will need to replace any of those entries yourself.
