Hey boards: First time poster here.

Problem: screen will black out and the puter will crash when trying to install anything - SimCity, Real player, whatever. I don't know if it's hardware related or software related.

    System details:
mobo: MSI K7T266 Pro2-U (VIA chipset)
    400W power,
    AMD Athlon XP1800
vid card: Verto nVidia GeForce MX440
80GB Western Digital HD (new, only about 800megs on it at this point.)
    2X256mb crucial ddr ram
    2 cd drives: Sony cd-rw/dvd-rom, Yamaha, cd-rw.
    running win98se
The HD is new, but the other components are about 1&1/2 years old. Trying to reinstall software on the new hd. things were going well. 98se installed without a problem. Other drivers, the same. Now, as I tried to install Real Player and Sim City, it blacks out at the end. Ugh. Any help would be appreciated.

Do you use OnTrack or V-COM suites?

It could be an anti-virus problem. Try turning off your AV before installing to see if that helps. If it does, look for updates for your AV software.
