Hi,

I'm trying to help out a friend in a different state with her computer. After installing SP3 everything got very weird. She's having a terrible time getting IE to work. It just spins and doesn't connect forever. I've checked the obvious things such as rebooting the cable modem and router, rebooting the computer, running windows update again, making sure there is plenty of HDD space, ram looks ok, etc. The majority of the error messages in event viewer have to do with IE. I ran a hijack this log just in case it might be security related. Her son has apparently been using a program called Pure Networks Port Magic. At this point it will connect to the internet and I can connect to the computer using LogMeIn and run what I need to. But it is so slow it's stupid! It took several tries just to get hijack this and belarc advisor to download at all.

Any help would be great!!

Here's the event viewer message:

Hanging application iexplore.exe, version 7.0.6000.16705, hang module hungapp, version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x00000000.

This is the basic info from Belarc Advisor:

treehstn, there is a restore partition on the PC
d: (FAT32 on drive 0) 6.51 GB 758 MB free
It will take 45 minutes to do it and it will be back to factory defaults and run as good as it can.
Make sure you back up all personal data first and confirm it is actually readable on another PC.
Also make a note of all the programs that are installed so you can reinstall them, that can be done in an hour or so providing you have the programs.
*Save all the users documents and settings, user data and application data and local settings and do a files and transfer settings to save them.
This will be just as quick as trying to trouble shoot probably much quicker actually.

---------------------------------------------------------------

This is the most TOOLBARS I have seen in a long time...
Why on earth would anyone have so many and why not uninstall them?
