    Hi,

re. Mac OS X 10.14 (Mojave)

I would like to create a folder that is protected by a password on the desktop. Encryption is not a must.

I have visited sites that give instructions for a password protected ".dmg" (disk image) created via the Disk Utility.

The problem is that the ".dmg" does not really behave like an ordinary folder. For example, I can't drag and drop files into or out of the ".dmg" the way I can into and out of an ordinary folder.

What I am looking for is a folder that behaves like any ordinary folder with respect to drag and drop or editing and re-saving a file in the folder, but to get into the folder requires the user to enter a password.

    Thanks for your help.

I'm wrong above. I failed to see that upon creation of the ".dmg" that you can set the protection to read/write. The default is read only. When creating it read/write, the ".dmg" behaves just like a folder with respect to drag and drop.
