crossiver cable?

    hi there, is a crossover cable the same thing as the ethernet cable that i use to hook my computer to my adsl modem? thanx e

    No.
    They are almost the same, but the wiring is in a slightly different order. They are used for connecting some types of network equipment (nic-nic, hub-uplink, etc)You should be able to buy one at most computer stores.
    If you are trying to make your own, post again, and we can give you the wiring order.

    i have on old 233mz computer that didn't recognize the dsl modem (need 400mz min) through usb hookup. i have the faster one hooked up like i said, through ethernet. now, i would like to hook up the old one to the new one (& possibly to the net?) the new (laptop) uses the one & only ethernet jack to hook up to the net so how do i hook up a crossover cable from the old...to the new while still using the net hook up to the modem? a hub? thanx ed

    I had my two computers connected with a crossover cable when I had dial up, but when I got my cable modem, I had to buy a router. The cable modem goes into the router, router out to each computer.
