Is there a registry value or a setting I can alter to use jpg as the preferred screenshot file format? As opposed to those oh so chunky bitmaps?

It isnt a bitmap until you save it as a bitmap is it?

Can you not paste it in to ms Paint then save it as jpg

alternatively there are alternative freeware print screen programs that have options

Yes, I could do that. However what I'm trying to do is paste a jpg into an email using ctrl-v without the extra steps you mentioned. I'm all about lowering my clicks/keystrokes. :)
