Data Error Reading Drive C in Win 98

    My Mom's computer is getting an:

    Data Error Reading Drive C
    Abort, Retry, Ignore, Fail

    When starting up. When in Safe Mode black screen comes up and gets stays at

    While Initializing Device VKD:
    Windows prot

    And in Step-By-Step Confirmation I get a message saying:

    The following file is missing or corrupted:

    And then I restared again after the above was done and I get another message saying "There is an error in your CONFIG.SYS file on line 11.

    Microsoft Registry check then failed and retry and then something about HIMEM.SYS is missing or corrupted.

    Can anyone help me with this problem. I seen other threads, but none helped me.
