Toshiba Tecra laptop / 512 meg / Win XP Pro SP3
Windows repeatedly pops up DEP message closing Generic Host Process for Win32 Svc
Sys event viewer shows: The Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 17 time(s).
Attempt to start service from service manager also terminated unexpectedly.
I could sure use some help on this one.
HJT log attached to show start ups.

I see an HP printer driver installed, and a few Google searches indicate a problem similar to yours. What model number is you printer?

Good Morning Frank. You too appear to be up very early
The printer is the HP Deskjet 720C using the HP Officejet 7200 series driver

That model is not one that Google results showed tied to a DEP problem. However, the HP website mentions conflicts between WIA and certain HP drivers (their solution is to disable WIA). Of course this may not be related to your problem... it's just my best guess.

After reading some of the google hits on WIA and DEP, I disabled WIA service and reboot. The flash continued to pop up the DEP error. It almost appears that no one has found a solution to this one yet.

Does this only happen on boot? or is it random? or is it caused by doing something often that triggers it?

You could add the win 32 svc to the Data Execution Prevention list in
control panel-system-advanced-performance settings-data execution prevention tab-turn on dep for all services except the ones I select.

No you can't. That only works if it's a executable.
