The laptop itself powers up, fans spin.
And makes noises.
But no display on screen, or external screen.
No beeping error messages when take out RAM or HD.
Lights do come on, but other than that and the sound of components it looks dead.

Any ideas?

Hiya headless.

The external screen option may have to be enabled in BIOS but as you don`t have access to it, you can`t check it.

As you have fans spinning and start-up noises, it`s probably not dead as such and it could just be the ribbon leading to the screen that`s been pinched or trapped somehow although you don`t say how old the machine is or whether it`s been taken apart in the past but you can answer those questions yourself.

If you feel adept with taking the trim off above the keyboard and having a look at the hinge area, you might find a cable or ribbon that`s twisted or pinched ...

Hi, thanks for the reply.

If that was the case though, wouldn't I get some beeping error messages?
3 Years old. HP G60.
Yes it has been taken apart, I will certainly have a look at that.

Hiya.

Not necessarily. As far as the mobo and system are concerned, it`s sending the signal out and as it doesn`t need to receive anything back, it`s done it`s job. Imagine removing the monitor lead from a standard PC, nothing onscreen but the system is still running.

Hopefully you`ll find a dodgy lead/ribbon inside and make sure you check the security of the connections at either end as well.

Sounds like a bad cable or the screen is dead.

Can you see the display in a well-lit room?

Or is it a completely dead screen?

Absolutely no display (nor on external).

Thanks you have given me hope that it is only a bad connection.
Other than that we are looking at mobo or processor?

also wouldn't it display on external if it was a trapped connection or something?

Cheers
