    hi,

I was wondering how often a person should defrag their computer? Your help is appreciated.

It actually depends on the type and amount of use you give your computer. The more you add, change, and rearange things, the more often you should defrag.

I visit PC Pitstop for a chech up from time to time. Also, if you run your computers defrag, it should scan your system to see if you need to go through the whole process.

The general consensus is to run Scandisk and Disk Defragmenter at least once every 30 days. This is a general guideline, however, so what you do with your computer will depend on how often the hard drive should be defragged. The "Disk Health" test link in the upper left corner of the PC Pit Stop site is a good place to check it.

You cannot defrag to often! I do it everyday. If you use your computer everyday I wouldn't wait longer than a week to defrag it. Download Diskeeper 8.0 and it will do it automatically for you. Set it and forget it. The general rule of thumb is:

The longer you wait to defrag, the LONGER it will take to defrag!
