Hi,

I'm working in a small office with approximately 12 workstations, all connecting to the internet and getting their e-mail through a proxy server (running WinProxy 4.0).

The problem we're experiencing is that every few minutes, there will be a delay of 30-60 seconds in downloading/sending mail, or opening up a webpage. No errors are given, and eventually it works, it just takes a little while. Is this behaviour normal for a workstation that is connecting through a proxy server? To the best of my knowledge, this has always been a problem, so its not like I changed some setting or did anything to the proxy server that would have resulted in this problem.

I know that this may appear to be a relatively minor problem, but most of our clients are based abroad, so having them call us long-distance, then putting them on hold while we wait to get internet access is not good for business.

I would greatly appreciate any suggestions or ideas that anyone may have regarding this matter.

Thanks! :)

What are the server specs for the proxy server? You might want to try more memory and making sure your network speed is up to snuff. If you are using hubs you might want to consider switches. I would also check the WinProxy web site for performance tweaks.
