I have windows xp on my 2001 dell computer. Back then, I had AOL and other programs which have been deleted. When I run my anti virus programs, these programs, though deleted, still show up under documents and settings\all users\application data\. I deleted AOL, Norton, etc. years ago along with other programs. Why are they still there and how can I get those files deleted out of my computer? I'm not that computer literate so I really need an easy step-by step instructions.

A program like recuva should get rid of them for you. Just download and install it and go from there.

Thanks for the reply Sue. I really appreciate it. What is recuva? Is it safe? Thanks. BTW, that is my wife's name also.

Sorry for butting in but isn't Recuva for recovering lost files, as opposed to notapro52's wish to delete those leftovers?

Did you "delete" them or uninstall them? You can't usually "delete" programs since an installation puts files throughout the system and not just in Program Files.

Are they still listed in Add/Remove Programs?
