Hi, I accidentally deleted the wrong User account (my Main account). Distracted and kicking myself! In Win2000, I can't do a system restore, right? The files are still there in a 'Main' folder in Documents & Settings, but all my settings are gone. When I added back Main as a User account, it created one called Main-Home. This acts like a brand new account. I'm having to start from scratch with every program. Is there a way to get things put back, so computer will recognize it and can access the old settings in Outlook Express, for example?

    clairessa,

i'm not sure if its this easy, but i wonder if you do the following in the main folder

edit - select all - copy

then paste it in the new main home folder. Reboot and see if that fixes it. Again, I'm not sure that will work but its worth a try as it can't hurt either...doc

    Unfortunately that wont work :(

If you delete a user account on a NT based system (Nt4/2000/XP etc) then it doesnt matter if you recreate the account identical to how it was named before you cannot recover the settings :(

There's always your backups. You do have backups, right?

Thanks for the replies! Kid, that's what I was afraid of, that the settings of my programs are gone for good. Time to grieve and start over as a new user, I guess. Doc, I was able to copy all the files from the Main folder and move them by using select all, right-click, copy here, into the new folder (it took awhile). At least I still have the saved documents, photos, and music. John, I do have backups, but I don't know where to look for things like the address book or saved emails in Outlook Express. Where do those reside, and might I be able to retrieve them? Thanks again, Clairessa.
