Hi there fastednj - welcome to TSG!

Take a look at this link: http://www.techtv.com/callforhelp/stepone/story/0,24330,3394505,00.html

Also found the following information if you are comfortable editing your Registry:

Open your registry and find the key:

    User Key: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Player]

To remove content that has been streamed from a particular Web site, clear the [...\RecentURLList] sub-key.

To remove the entire file list that you recently played, clear the [...\RecentFileList] sub-key.

Restart Windows Media Player for the change to take effect.

    Hope this helps! :)

thanks. I tried this a few days ago and now the recent file doesnt even show up when I go to player. I have reinstalled windows 2000 pro from my cd and still no go. So now what.

I am so pleased that you are willing to try to help me. Is there any outside software that will allow me to manage this better? I am not terribly skilled, but do take instruction well. Doesnt anyone up in Washington ever have to deal with their own problems?

    Try it this way:

    Copy the bold into Notepad:

    REGEDIT4

    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Player\RecentFileList]

    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Player\RecentURLList]

Save as Wmp.reg, and doubleclick it. Answer 'yes' when you're asked whether you'd like to have the contents of your reg file merged into the registry, and your Recent File List will be cleared.

If no joy, or if you'd like to try another solution have a look at MRU-Blaster

SpyBot S&D will also do a great job cleaning MRU lists.

Thanks Tony, everyone. I tried the "pure" way of doing it to no avail. I dowloaded your recommended software and, Voila! I am clean as a whistle!

I like your family picture, and loved my trip to the Netherlands two years ago. I too, have a few grey hairs.
