Here's what could be a simple question.
My wife has a Dell 8200. It only has 256 of RAM. I have a spare 512 Ram, can I install it?
Is Dell propriatary and has to have a "certain" type of RAM?

    Thanks folks.

Remove the Ram and compare with your 512MB ram whether it is the same size. If it is the same size its the same type of RAM. You should be able to add.

Great. 1 more, since I have you...
A website I look at to figure out how open the case showed something called "RIM" Memory. What the heck is that?

I believe you are referring to this
The memory module used with RDRAM chips. It is similar to a DIMM package but uses different pin settings. Rambus trademarked the term RIMM as an entire word. It is the term used for a module using Rambus technology. It is sometimes incorrectly used as an acronym for Rambus Inline Memory Module.

Brought home the memory I have. The difference in the 2 sticks is that the DELL memory has 2 cuts in the side, the one I have, only has one. So it won't fit into the slot. I'm thinking its propriatary.

If what works out? Did you see my previous post about the "cuts" in the side of the stick?
