Dell Box Won't Defrag?

    2000 Dell Box running Windows 98 won't Defrag. Any ideas out there ?
    Scan Disk runs funny. Could HDD be faulty? Only 1 year old. Stock Dell HDD...Any advce out there will be appreciated.. Thanx, Bill S.

    try running scan disk and defrag in "safe mode", you could also go to the hard drive makers site and see if they have any diagnostic tools you can download (most of them do) for example if its a maxtor HD you could try runing powermax, you can get it from there site

    Scandisk and Defrag are prone to restarting in Win98 - its quite common. As mentioned above try it in Safe mode. You can also use another defrag program like Disk KeeperLite - the lite version is free and should be able to find it using google.
