Hello!
My Dell Dimension recently upgraded to windows xp from windows 2000 will not go past the setup page. It says it is missing 2 files and I do not know how to add them to the system. The file(s) it is missing are Presetup.cmd and SetupORG.exe. I have tried booting from a live disk and a windows 95 and xp setup disk but have had no luck. The computer does not boot from USB as I have tried. The message I received is attached. Any help would be very appreciated.
I am not quite sure if you want to update your Bios to see if you may have better luck if not done so, but cannot guarantee you if you will succeed in the installation of Windows XP.
You will need your installation disc (Windows 98) to do this and the utility drivers disc. After completing this step check what version of your Bios you have. You don't need to install the Bios if you don't want to. That is an optional choice for you to do.
The Dell Dimension L933R desktop is 14 - 15 years old.
It comes with an Intel Pentium III 933 MHz processor and supports a maximum of 512 MB of PC133 RAM.
It's too old and too slow to run Windows XP, and its Intel 810 graphics device doesn't support it.
How exactly were you upgrading it from Windows 2000 to Windows XP?
Doing a clean install of Windows 98 is much more difficult than doing a clean install of Windows XP.
The Windows XP disc does all the work and doesn't require any DOS commands.
The Windows 98 disc needs to be used in combination with a bootable startup floppy disk and DOS commands.
