I was given a Dell e1705 running media XP...I want to install windows 7. I tried last night after searching the internet where others were successful...sadly I was not. I got it installed but then it would just loop to the start screen where it says DELL and you could press a F key. Am I mistaken of this being possible? If so are there other steps to do this...never had so much trouble installing OS.

There aren't any Win 7 drivers for that model. The closest you'll get is installing Vista drivers, but that's hit & miss. I don't think you should waste anymore time trying to install Win 7 on this machine, to be honest.

You appear to have a 11-12 years old Dell Inspiron E1705 laptop.

It comes with Windows XP and supports only 2 GB of DDR2 RAM.

What's the exact "service tag" number and "express service code" number on yours?

    Please read this:
    http://www.notebookreview.com/notebookreview/dell-inspiron-e1705-review-pics-specs/

"An important note on the e1705 is the fact that the Dell Inspiron 9400 sold via the Dell Business site is the same notebook as the e1705 offered through the Dell Home online store. The only difference is that the Dell e1705 offers Windows Media Center Edition as an OS, along with an external USB TV Tuner option. Prices and offers may vary between each Dell online purchase channel, so you’d be wise to configure and price similar notebooks on each site to see what the better deal is at the time you order."

Perhaps you should read the rules on this forum regarding piracy.

As already indicated, we do not support piracy and therefore will not provide any assistance with such activities.

    Therefore, I'm closing this thread.
