My wife has a Dell inspiron 2500, 800mhz celeron, 256 mb, WIN XP Pro. After an Adobe Flash player download the unit started acting funky. First, the download failed to install, then upon restarting, it started beeping. But it was a continuous beeping. This has a Phoenix bios and nowhere on their web site's beep chart shows this action. I changed the memory modules and after that the beeping stopped , but when the laptop booted (very sloooooowly) the desktop did some weird things. All sorts of dialog boxes popped up :" virtual memory is low"; HELPCTR.EXE , "Mozilla help (Even though I wasn't in Firefox)" the cursor became a hand; desktop icons disappeared; start menu could not open.Hard drive light on constantly. Could this be a virus? Or a hard drive failure? Or something else? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
