Hello there, thank you for looking in :)

I just found this Dell Inspiron 2650 in my brothers room and decided to work on it. this computer is pretty old and he has a mac now. it was just collecting dust.

first thing i notice is the computer wont even turn on!so w.e, i open this thing up, and take a look at it. now i have it opened up on my carpet.

Now i want to know if anyone can help me out with this. what could be the main problem with the computer not even turning on. at all, the power outlet is in and everything. I understand this is a very old computer XD

thanks in advance for any help :)

    any fans come on
any lights inside on the motherboard, or harddrives

BE VERY CAREFUL working on live equipment

    it could be

no power on the socket you have pluged it into
Fuse gone in plug (if UK)
    powersupply gone
    Switch broken
    Motherboard gone

the "charger" works fine lights on. (U.S)

nothing comes on. no fans nothing...no reaction.

usually when its the mother the computer atleast turns on no?

could be the power from the computer itself? but does it even have one like a pc? (the transformer with the fan)

take the battery out - see if it works with the battery out and connected on mains
when you say charger light - is that on th elaptop or on the charger itself

it was pretty bad, viruses and all kinds of problem, but it still turned on, and functioned rather decently.

all in all the laps beat up. but it can still work, i tried it with the battery and without, always plugged in. its not respoding at all, is this the motherboard? or an input problem? the laptops actually power input

as i said the battery may now be dead and th emachine may not owrk without a working batt

I had a Compaq LAptop which would not work on batt but needed it in to work - eventaully the batt wnt bad and it did not work, and it was not worth replacing the batt to expensive, althoigh i borrowed one and proved the batt issue
