Swapped out 1 gig 4x of Ram with 2 gig 4x Ram. Ram was recognized correctly but system was continually powering down and restarting. Now no matter whether I use original or new ram I am getting 5 beeps which indicates cmos battery. I replaced with 2 different batteries making sure they were seated properly and have also tried to boot with NO battery in place but continue to get 5 beeps with NOTHING on the screen. If I remove all ram I get two beeps which indicates no ram detected. If I add just one ram stick I get the 5 beeps again. Any suggestions? Didn't provide the RAM specs as it is happening with original RAM and new RAM.

5 beeps: Real time clock failure. Possible battery failure or system board failure.
Since you replaced the battery and still get the 5 beeps, you may be looking at a motherboard failure.

Thank you Liz, I was afraid that could be the situation.
