    Hi,

I have a dell inspiron 8000; first my client got it to God know what kinda "technician" somewhere out there..he took it there because of a bios password problem...i don´t know what he did there and now, the laptop powers on but no Dell screen or anything else....just a white screen...no beeps no no thing...

could it be a harddrive problem? or something else?

    Hello,

This is Richard from Dell's Online Community Outreach group. The problem with the system is most likely the LCD inverter. The LCD display would have to be replaced to correct the issue.

You can call our spare parts department at 1-800-822-8965, for a price quote on that part.

If you had an inverter problem the screen would be black. I would try reseating the display connector to the system board. You can usually access the plug on most Dell laptops under the keyboard.

    Hello,

Lurker1 is correct the cable may be at fault. To verify and correct this you will have to disassemble part of the system to access the LCD cable. Use this linkhttp://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/plav/sm/remove.htm#1024986 to assist you. It is the actual service manual.

There are two connection points you will need to reseat the cable. If this does not correct the issue then it is the inverter that is the issue. A bad inverter can make an LCD go dark or bright white as I have witness this myself.

    Good luck,
