    Hello,

After re-installing Windows 7 on my 1,5 years old Dell Inspiron N5110 laptop, my laptop won't shut down anymore.
The laptop has every symptom of shutting down, it will do all of the updates when there are, the screen will go black after 'shutting down'.
But the laptop will always be making those 'think' noises. Also there are some of the lights still on. After it gets in this 'state', I'm also unable to turn on my laptop again.

It will turn off when I push on my off button for like 5-10 seconds.
But that won't be too good for my laptop doing that all the time...

Now, my laptop will get in sleeping state, but than again.. I can't wake him up again.

Edit: I forgot to say, since a few days, it will just 'turn off' out of nowhere.

Is there anyone who experienced this before, or who can just help me out?
The nice Dell Support won't help me in any other way then by using the phone, but that doesn't seem like a perfect way of solving a problem in my opinion, therefore I'm asking your help.

Hope you get this, my English aint too good.

    Thanks,

Hi Jorkiej and welcome to TSG :)

Please explain exactly how you re-installed Windows 7. From a Microsoft DVD ? Using Laptop's recovery partition/optical disks ? Did you install any drivers after the install ?

    You're English is fine !

    Hello,

    First, thank you!

I installed the windows 7 from a legit Microsoft DVD.
Then from the laptop's Drivers and Utilities DVD I got all of my Drivers.

    No extra drivers were installed.

Also, when I discovered this problem, I re-installed Windows 7 and all the drivers again.
    Still the same problem.
So I think it can't just be a software problem.

    Thanks!

    No, it all looks normal.
    I tried re-installing accu, didn't work.
The only warning my laptop is giving, is that I should make a back-up.. :p

There's one more problem with my laptop, I don't know or it's together with the main problem.
But my laptop will turn on out of nowhere sometimes.

Is there anyone who experienced any of this before, or knows how to deal with it?
Or simply has some advice/ideas to try solving it?

    Thanks!

The laptop turns on by itself even when it has been fully switched off ? What does 'accu' mean ?

Yes, sometimes when it's fully switched off, it will turn on.
Accu, the battery of my laptop, I re-installed the drivers of it.

Try tapping F8 when you switch the laptop on and pick 'Safe Mode' from the menu. Then see if it shutsdown ok. Safe Mode loads less drivers so it should help to find the cause.

I don't know how a laptop can turn itself on, that's very strange.

    Safe mode won't help either.
I have also tried Ubuntu on my laptop, and it won't make any difference.
It can't seem to stop some services to shut down, but it won't tell me what ones.

    The problem is solved!
It seems that there are more Dell Inspiron N5110 users who have experienced this problem.
I'll try to explain how to solve it, with my bad computer language:
When windows 7 has been re-installed on the computer, it won't be compatible with BIOS.
So your BIOS will be unstable.
One easy thing to solve it: Remove your BIOS battery for 10 seconds, plug it back in and your done.
This will make your BIOS reset to original state and everything will work fine again.

    Okay, soo...
My laptop decided to start making the same issues again..
First it would fall into sleeping modus, and I could wake her up easily, but now again,
it will 'shutdown', as in everything is still 'working' but I can't seem to wake it up.

Is there anyone who knows a definitive solution to this?
Or should I try to reset my BIOS again so it will be solved for a little while again?

Also, I don't know if it has anything to do with the main problem, probably not..
But my Wifi seems to be bothered by the problem. When I start up my laptop again, it will take 5-10 minutes for my Wifi to get back online. When I want it to go fast, I need to reset the router/modem. (Other people don't like that)

    Thanks!
