    Hi,

My laptop is messed up beyond belief, possibly a bad hard drive.. Before I take it to a shop and throw hundreds of dollars away, I'd like to try and restore the computer to the factory state.. I am putting all my files on a flash drive today either way, but I would really like to do a full system restore.. However, my CD rom drive is broken so I can't use the Dell supplied reinstall software. Is there a way to do a full system restore taking the laptop back to the state it was in when it came out of the box without using a CD? Thanks for the help.

have u tried Dell's forums or website? u should look up ur laptop model & see if it's poss 2 return 2 "as shipped" by using the F11 key on boot... most models (desktops anyway) shipped after Sept '04 have this option or so i've read :D

Does your machine have the built-on restore partition? Fn + F11 at post.

ran_rajan - Inserting email addresses into the posts is kind of forbidden basically becasue there is these little bots that are for spam called spambots and they search the forums for email addresses and you more than likely will get creamed. Also I have been told that anything to do with posting should be done only in the forums so all can see. I would suggest that you please remove your email address from your last post you can do that by clicking the edit button at the lower right corner of the box
