I have a Dell Inspiron 3200 with WIN98SE installed. I have just installed the OS and several applications and have a good starting point. I want to image the hard drive using GHOST 5.1d. I powered down the system, installed a XIRCOM CreditCard Ethernet 10/100 (CE3B-100BTX), connected the dongle and network patch cord and booted the system with a DOS boot disk with the network drivers and the CE3ODI driver. When the boot process tries to load the driver, I get a message that states that no PC cards were found.

I called Dell for help with this but I was told that I would not be able to boot and connect to the network through DOS.

I don't believe that is true because I do it with Compaq laptops all the time.

I guess I need something like card and socket services, but where do I get them? Shouldn't the BIOS be able to detect the PCMCIA cards installed?

NO...you need a bootable diskette for Ghost with the DOS drivers and card services for your PCMCIA NIC. I think ghost has a utility to help you create one....might be part of Ghost walker, but I am not sure.

    Rickn, thanks for the reply.

I do have a DOS boot disk. The novell network VLMs are also on the disk. Card and socket services are not on the diskette. If I use this diskette in a Toshiba or a Compaq ARMADA Family laptop, I have no problem getting to a network login prompt. Its just when I use the disk on this Inspiron 3200 that I have the problem of no PC cards being found.

There is probably some sort of card bus controller chip that this DELL model does not have, so the BIOS can't be setup to see PCMCIA cards without card and socket service software installed.
