I am getting a thermal shutdown error on a dell optiplex gx1 system running Windows NT4. I replaced a defective case fan and the system worked for a few hours but then shut itself down. Could this be a processor overheating and any ideas how to fix this annoying problem.

Thanks,

Download (if you can) and install THIS program. It will give you the sensor temps inside the system (if it has them).

It sounds like a heat problem yes, but I can't say for sure.

Once you have the program, open it, and then click the +computer, then click on 'sensor'. What are the readings?

Scorp.

Had to download corporate trial version and it would not give a report for the sensor. I am wondering if the sensor on the motherboard may have failed.

Thanks for the suggestion.
