    Hey Everybody,

I just got my new Dell Inspiron 1721 with Windows Vista and a Dell Wireless 1390 WLAN Mini-Card.

The Problem: I can not connect with the Internet via WLA.

I have no problems connecting with the cable. I have tried to connect via WLAN at various locations where I know the notebooks of my fiends and colleges have absolutely no problem.

The Software "Dell Wireless WLAN Card Utility" finds all the networks in the "air" but Windows does not and I can not connect to any of them.

I would be VERY VERY happy if anybody knows a solution to this problems!

    Thanks in advance!

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows XP with SP2 & Vista.

For XP, Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt.

For Vista, Start, Programs\Accessories and right click on Command Prompt, select "Run as Administrator" to open a command prompt.

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ip reset reset.log

    Reboot the machine.

Let's see this after trying to connect to one of the networks in question.

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:

    Type the following command:

    IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Am I correct in assuming you are using this on a wired connection right now? Where in the connection process does the wireless connection fail?

Yes, you are right. I am using a wired connection right now. The connection without a wire fails since when I press start/connection a window pops up which should show all available networks. However, there is no network listed in this window although the "Dell Wireless WLAN Card Utility" (software by Dell) finds them all. However, this software only list the network but one can not make a connection to it via this software.

Does the Dell connect to other wireless networks, say at a local WiFi hotspot? Have you disabled encryption on the router and attempted to connect that way?

If you're using the Dell software to connect to wireless networks, you need to disable the Windows WZC service, since the two will fight. Can you take a screen shot of the "Dell Wireless WLAN Card Utility" showing the connections?

To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file. To upload it to TSG, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here.

    Dear JohnWill,

thanks a million for your help! There is no WZC in Windows Vista. In Vista it is called Native Wifi API (see http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms706593.aspx)

However, I have reinstalled the driver of the card and have downloaded an older driver -> it works. By uninstalling the old driver and installing the newer one, however, the card didn't worked again! So right know I use the older driver and everything works.

Quit strange! Thanks for you help anyway! It inspired me to experiment with all the stuff!

    Ciao, lorrius
