I have an older Dell XPS 8700. It did not come with an mSATA drive, but, it has the slot. I contacted Dell Tech chat and they said they could only recommend a 32GB or a 256GB drive. Is this true?

On those XPS 8700's they mSATA drive was uses as a cache drive not a boot drive, the BIOS used RAID to do it. That's why they told you those 2 sizes....that was their size options for the cache drive. According to Dell the 8700's that didn't come with the mSATA drive can't do it due to different BIOS, but I can't verify that. But to be honest, if you want a speed increase just install a regular SSD, don't even worry about the mSATA.

    Just my opinion.....
