" I have windows xp(home edition) and once I log on I'm only getting a blank white screen without any icons. The start button with taskbar will come up on the bottom. I checked my appearance and themes and I've got a desktop scene selected but its not showing. I am a new computer owner but I've had a desktop scene with icons up until two days ago. from frustrated and at my wits end!!!!!!!!!!!!!!thanks!!

Welcome :) Sounds like you may have deleted your desktop from quick launch.

The beauty of xp it the ability to "undo" things like this.

Start/programs/accessories/system tools/system restore/restore my computer to an earlier time/next. When you see the calendar, pick a date before the trouble began and click next.

    Reboot when prompted.
