My sister-in-laws' desktop will not display a background. The screen briefly shows her picture and then turns blue and only displays her desktop icons.

The display background choices in the control panel are all inoperable and the little screen showing the display preview is white. I had previously changed the font setting from extra large to medium and these settings work.

    Any ideas would be appreciated.

Does this mean her computer has a virus or could it be a corrupted registry file? Thanks for the input.

this behaviour could have been the result of a malware infection indeed.

download and run HJT, don't have HJT fix anything yet, just post your log file here and wait for a certified member to analyze your HJT log. you'll be guided step by step through the removal process.

    Thank you.

One more question. Her IE homepage had been taken over by AOL Netscape. I changed it back to MSN. Could this have contributed to the problem?
