Hi,

I just bought a Compaq computer brand new yesterday. I set up my DSL and my Creative sound card along with my HP Printer with no problems and restarted my com. Now when it re-starts, my desktop shows up for only a few seconds then disappears and doesnt come back!

Ive never used XP before but I think I have to much stuff in memory that came with the com as it runs sluggishly.

Also, how can I uninstall Norton Security?

If your comp is new i doubt you'd need to uninstall anything, what are your specs?
as for your problem i can guess it might be your vid card? could be bad connection.
miss read your post hehe to uninstall: start/control panel/add and remove hardware, norton shoud be on the list there

If your taskbar is visiable, right click and open task manager. If it isn't, Ctrl+Alt+Del will open it. On the task manager click File> New Task(Run..) and type explorer then OK.
If that doesn't work, try this from Microsoft Support.

Thanks, but ive figured it out.

1.Removed Norton Security
2.Removed about 20 games (Compaq likes to install games let me tell ya!)
3.Installed Fix-It Utilities 6 and ran the registry fixer, deleted around 700 registries that pointed to nothing and installed its Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware programs
4.Restarted

My com is now running like a raped ape! :) WOOHOO!

Im off to get HiJack This installed along with a couple of other things!

Thanks again for the replies!
