For some reason I am unable to double click or right click an icon on my desktop and open it,, when I try to open an icon a box pops up asking me which programme do I want to open it with???
I've had this problem for over a week now
I am running windows vista,, I have done a system restore in hopes that would fix it but to no avail.
I'm guessing it must be a virus but I cant run/open AVG which is on my pc

It seems like whatever extension it is, is no longer recognized by windows as having a valid program installed. If you go into folder options (under control panel) and uncheck the option for "Hide extensions for known file types", it should show you the extension for the file you are trying to view. It may be that the program needed to open it is somehow screwed up.

If you know the program is installed, you can use that dialog box that pops up (asking you which program you want to use to open it) to browse for the program. Then just check the option to Always use with this program (or something similar).
