    Hi,

I have Win 2000 and the desktop won't load when I restart the computer, I froze up and then went to reboot and that was it. I was able to get here by using task manager. I get an error message stating that there was a problem with explorer.exe and that windows will reboot.

    Any suggestions?

    Thank you
    Shari

Well, I tried to start in safe mode but nothing happened, the screen just stayed black. Just a little update so that you know I did try that

    can you run:

    sfc /scannow

Be aware of this caveat though: http://support.microsoft.com/Default.aspx?kbid=814510

You may want to try this suggestion first...

Also you may be able able to extract a copy of explorer.exe to your windows directory if you have

    explorer.ex_

    in a c:\I386 folder

The command to do this, if the file is present would be:

    expand c:\I386\explorer.ex_ %windir%\explorer.exe
