desktop(xp) cannot access laptop(2k)

desktop(xp) cannot access laptop(2k), when my laptop is on and desktop i try to enter thru my desktop to get my files of the laptop and everytime i can't get in it asks for username and password.

i enter my laptop username and password comes back still need your name and password.

I really don't have an clue and my self being working on computers for at least 8 1/2 years.

i know half software but still i'm more the a hardware person

but please help me to get thru on my desktop to my laptop.

 

ok My desktop is on also laptop is on too! the laptop has 2000 on it desktop Windows XP!
when trying from desktop to access my laptop it appears i need an username and password wats going on plz help me!!!
