My daughter was given a used IBM thinkpad 760 EL however the floppy drive doesn't seem to work when I tried to manualy install the drive I got a conflict message in trying to find out what the conflict was I found that the device manager file isn't there. I can't find it in the system at all. It's a windows 95 operating system and the only way to install anything is the floppy drive (it doesn't have a CD-Rom or USB port or parrell drive) it is very basic. Is there anyway around this problem cheaply?

I'm a little fuzzy on differences between Win95 and later versions here, but if you right click on My Computer and select "Properties", do you not see System Properties with a Device Manager tab? System Properties should also be available in the Control panel or by going to start and running:

sysdm.cpl

sysdm.cpl should be present in c:\windows\system

If isn't, that's why you can't access the Device Manager.

Unless there are cabinet files on the hard drive, I don't know where you would get another copy.

Do you have the folder c:\windows\options\cabs ?
