I have used Mandrake Linux 7.2 as my OS and installed DHCP server capabilities on several machines. These machines work great when I first install them onto my network (OSes range from Win95 to WinXP and Mac OS X). After 2-3 weeks however these servers consistently crash on me. They will not reboot until I unplug them and put them back on the network. This is not always convenient as some of them are in remote locations. Does anybody have any ideas how to prevent this crashing?

    Yes, I do.

Take a long hard look at your lease periods.
If they're too short (mandrake defaults to 60 SECONDS!!!) you'll have IP conflicts. If they're too long, you can run out of IP's!

If you have no portable computers on your network, I'd strongly recommend taking the time to set individual IP's for your computers.

I've had a lot of problems with Mandrake's inbuilt DHCP server. It's shocking. If you need any more help, feel free to email me.

    Best of luck!
