I had to restart my computer yesterday due to an anti-virus software update. Ever since, my computer will not load past the desktop image. I have tried restarting it multiple times. I'm able to log onto my account, but my toolbar and icons will not load, and I can only open the task manager about half the times I've tried.

I wasn't doing anything at all unusual before the first restart. Facebook and Google, running Mozilla Firefox, with a couple Notepad files open. All of which were closed before I clicked "restart."

I don't know what's going on, and I have no idea where to begin fixing it.

I'm on a crappy, 3-year-old Compaq mini-tower, with an Intel Atom processor, running Windows XP. This is all I know off the top of my head, and due to the nature of my problem, I can't find more now.

Thank you, in advance, for your time.

I hadn't really thought of that, finals have me a little fuzzy.

It doesn't give me an option to boot into safe mode while windows is loading. There's another way to get into safe mode, though, right? One of the function keys?
