That subnet address looks bogus, normally for a 192.168.x.x address, the subnet address would be 255.255.255.0.

For an IPCONFIG display that you can see all of, do this:

Open a DOS window and type:

IPCONFIG /ALL >C:RESULT.TXT

Open C:\RESULT.TXT with Notepad and copy/paste the entire results here.

Can you show the IP address information for all computers.

What is giving out the IP address and subnet mask. (Static, from the router?)

As johnwill mentioned, at least the subnet mask is incorrect.

I agree with Bob and johnwill that the subnet mask of 255.0.0.0 looks duff. But I too have a PC acquiring an IP address (though a wireless ethernet bridge linked to a wireless router (both Netgear pieces of kit)) with a 255.0.0.0 subnet which I am definitely not expecting. I get connectivity to/from the PC but it's sometimes flaky (and I wish I could get to the bottom of what is causing it in the hope of removing the flakiness).

Hi johnwill, Bob Cerelli, coulterp, (and anyone else looking in, )

Thanks for the re-direct to a textfile,
i had forgotten about that facility.
So used to graphical control, i was trying to figure how to scroll !!

I have modified it slightly to put the textfile on desktop:
... >C:\WINDOWS\Desktop\result.txt
if i end up using it a lot, i may do a little bat to save typing.
I am not a 'natural' typist, i'm just a one-fingered keyboard poker.

Sorry, i don't know where they get their IP numbers,
i had always thought it came from the 'previous link in the chain'
that is the number was passed on between devices.
But the way this is going, that looks like i was mistaken.

Each of the three PCs can access the net independantly so something
is working ...

It could of course simply be that the router is configured to dish out 192.168.1.0/255.0.0.0 for some reason. Have you checked the router to see what it is distributing?

My own experience with Netgear routers (with the two or three models I tried) was that they did not operate very well with sub-net mask 255.0.0.0 and had to be left on the standard 255.255.255.0 sub-net mask. I cannot comment as regards your particular model.

Curiously, it seems my lease for secondary WINS will expire very soon.
I hope i don't need that ....

The lease is for your IP (not WINS) which means something is doling out DHCP (I would assume your router). This means when the lease is up it looks to renew that IP address with the router. if it can't it will try to get another IP.

Whats curious on the first PC is you have an obtained lease time but no Lease end time... As well as all your other PC's have the 255.255.255.0 and your first one does not.
