    Hi jett_30032, welcome to TSG.

Are you getting any error messages? Which one do you have set as the host?

So, the files you want to retrieve are on the PC, and you want to get them to the laptop.....you've got the laptop set up as guest, correct?

What happens when you try to retrieve a file?

That's the thing I can't even get that far. They are not connecting at all.

You should be able to set the host up as host without the other one connected.....then you should be able to set the other one up as guest without being connected. That way both are ready.

Then go ahead and connect them, start the host running, then go back to the guest and see if they won't communicate then.

Yes you will need a null modem cable to connect two PCs together. You can usually get a converter plug that fits on one end of the serial cable from your local computer store.
