    Hi Guys,

    I'm new here and spend the past few hours noticing that a lot of people are having problems with Direct X and NVIDIA cards. Me too! I started digging through some files (trying some suggested fixes, etc.), and noticed a weird thing.

    Okay, background first. I had to buy a new computer a few months ago and had to accept the dreaded Vista-thing. It worked okay, so I couldn't complain too much. I am not a big gamer, so did not invest in a huge "gaming" computer. But I like to occasionally play Civilization or Bejewelled - and my kinds like to play Sims 2 and 3 - all games that require Direct X. All the games worked just fine with the GeForce 9100 videocard I have, up until a few weeks ago (when I recently found out the Direct X 11 came uninvited in an automatic update from MS). Now the games will play fine for about 10 minutes, and then all of a sudden slow down to commencement-speech-speed. Not just the game - my whole system will need to be rebooted. I re-installed games, updated drivers, cleaned out everything I could, even increased my virtual memory, to no avail.

    Then for kicks, I looked at my NVIDIA Control Panel. It shows that I have Direct X 10. Could that cause a problem? Is there a way to "update" that? Or is my video card just not compatible with DX 11?

    Sorry about the long post :eek:. Thanks in advance for any possible help.
    Here are copies of my DirectX Diagnostic and the NVIDIA Control Panel (I had to cut it short - ran out of space, so only the parts up to the display devices are in):

    Try downloading the DirectX February 2010 Redist and install it, see if it helps. If not then go to the Control Panel and uninstall the NVIDIA video drivers and reboot, make sure you press F8 before the loading screen comes up and select Safe Mode, once you've gotten to the desktop in Safe Mode run this program Driver Sweeper and clean the remainding video driver files and reboot, now install the latest NVIDIA ForceWare drivers. If none of this fixes it or you need further assistance don't hesitate to ask!

    Thanks so much for your help. I think I messed up somewhere, because:
    1) I still have the same problem, in that the graphics in games just hit molasses after about 5 minutes of play;

    and 2) I now have new problems - whenever I reboot my computer, I get a message that Windows will be so kind as to help me install driver software (I re-installed the NVIDIA drivers as directed), and somehow I lost my wired internet connection. I have always connected to my cable modem/router with a wire instead of wirelessly (I find the connection more stable), but have no idea what happened to that.

    I think I am less computer literate than I thought I was :(

    Sounds like your installation of Windows is borked! You could try fixing it but if you don't know what your doing then I suggest you get a friend to help you reinstall Windows.
