    Hiya

Which version of DirectX are you using? If you can open up DXDIAG, its in the first tab.

    Also, lets see whats running.

Go to Run and type MSINFO32
On the left choose Software Enviroment, then Startup Programs. Copy/paste the list here.

Also, go here and download AddAware http://tomcoyote.com/lsindex.html

Download and run, ensuring that Deep Registry scan is enabled. Remove all except any references to Web3000 or new.net. If you're unsure, copy/paste the list here.

Also, whilst you're there, download and install RefUpdate to get the latest updates. Just click Connect.

    Regards

    The first list....

ZoneAlarm: Firewall program from Zonelabs - free version. Recommended if you either connect to the internet manually or are permanently connected

    ScanRegistry: keep

TaskMonitor: The Task Monitor checks the disk-access patterns of programs when they are started and stores this information in log files in the Applog folder. Task Monitor also records the number of times you use a program. The Disk Defragmenter tool uses this information to optimize your hard disk so that programs that you use frequently are loaded faster. Not required - but can be useful. Note: for Norton Anti-Virus 2002 users, loading TaskMonitor will typically solve many, if not most, of those annoying IE scripting errors (per Symantec's Knowledgebase)

    SystemTray: keep

    LoadPowerProfile: keep

DXM6Patch_981116: Win32 cabinet self extractor. More info here. Not required
    http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=...ev=/groups?q=P_981116.exe&hl=en&start=10&sa=N

LVComs: Lvcomm server. Related to Logitech Quick Cam - works fine without it. Not required

StillImageMonitor: If your scanner does not have a button to initiate scanning you don't need stimon. Even if it does have a button, you can still manually launch the scanning application. If unavailable via Start -> Programs, create your own shortcut. If your scanner needs this running to be recognised, start it manually first

USSShReg: Registration reminder for Ulead SmartSaver Pro - compacts large graphics for web designers. Not needed

LoadQM: Loads the MSN Explorer Query Manager - a waste of resources and bandwidth. Also installed by the latest version of MSN Messenger. Note that disabling this can sometimes prevent internet sharing working on Win2K Pro SP2. Reports also suggest that removing it will re-enable internet access - hence the "users choice" recommendation. If you have problems leave it, otherwise I recommend you disable it

SchedulingAgent: Microsoft Scheduling Agent displayed as a box with a stopwatch in the System Tray that is only needed if you have regular scheduled disk defragmenting, ScanDisk, etc. I'd recommend you run these at regular intervals manually as they can interrupt other programs

TrueVector: Even if you don't have ZoneAlarm or ZoneAlarm Pro run at start-up you do need this

minilog: If you don't have ZoneAlarm or ZoneAlarm Pro running you don't need this. This must be enabled if programs such as VisualZone Report utility or ZoneLog Analyzer are in use

Go to Run and type MSCONFIG, startup tab. Uncheck the ones you don't want, apply and restart.

    Now, the second list..

    They can all go.

As for DirectX, try this version:

    Okay

Re-run AddAware, and instead of clicking Show Log, press Continue. Then, tick all the boxes, and Continue. Yes.

    Okay

So, you have DirectX Version: DirectX 8.1 (4.08.01.0881)

Now, lets have a look at your video card. You have a S3 Inc. ViRGE GX2, driver version 4.10.01.2122.

Well, S3 are useless. They haven't upgraded the drivers since 1998 :(

    Some other things...

    In the first message:

What happened when you press Yes? Or No?

You're not getting any other error messages?

Could you check something else for me...

Just run a quick scan, either with an updated virus scanner, or here:

    Okay

Looks like its your Sound card that may be at fault. Can you confirm the full name.

Control Panel | System. Device Manager. Under Sound will be your card. Its a Soundblaster.

Also, rightclick on it, choose Properties, then Driver tab. Whats the version?
