I've just switched from Firefox to Chrome (because of compatibility issues, but that's not relevant).
So the problem is, if I type a domain followed by a non-existent TLD, Google Chrome will use the default search engine to search for it.

    For example if I type:
I end up at a Google search for "www.example.randomtld". Specifically, this page.

In Firefox, if I went to "www.example.randomtld", I'd get a "server not found". I figured if Chrome searches these pages, Google (or whatever search engine I use) will know what websites I go on, and I don't want that to happen. Is there a way that I can disable this and get a locally error page instead?

PS: I'm using Google Chrome version 24.0.1312.57 m on Windows 7.

PSS: It would be great if you could tell me how to change the new tab page, if that's even possible. I prefer about:blank over the regular new tab page with Chrome Web Store, Docs, Drive, etc.
