Is there a way that I can stop AVG Pro 8 from starting on bootup? I don't like the amount of resources it uses when I am gaming, but I still want to be able to use it to do scans. I have found no settings in the program that say anything about starting it on boot and I have removed all the AVG components from msconfig startup.
The object of having an antivirus program on our computers is to protect it from intruders... Why would you disable it?
It is much easier to prevent an infection than to try to heal it.

Most users tend to have too many unnecessary programs running in the background, so you probably could reduce the number in your own MSCONFIG "Startup" tab list and regain some resources.
Going on-line without a full-time antivirus program is only asking for trouble.
I have already disabled many programs, including most services that are unneccesary in services.msc. I am well aware what a virus program entails, but AVG likes to run 5 srevices all the time, 5! I am smart about files, browsing and email, I don't get viruses often. I don't want to remove it, just prevent it from running all the time. I am a power user
