This one's got me stumped, new system 1.3 Athalon on Gigabyte 7zmm board, 256 ram, creative cd, mitsumi cdrw, nec 100mb zip drive and 20gig wd h/d. Running windows 98, creative and zip on one eide channel and mitsumi cdrw and hd on second (primary) channel. Will work fine most of time but all of sudden the zip drive disappears from machine, will only return if machine is rebooted. In addition occasionaly the machine locks up or runs super slow and you must hard boot it. Am I having a overheating problem? or could problem be in the memory (ram) area? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

not sure about the disappearing zip drive, but would suggest you relook at how you have the 2 cables set up

normally i've seen the hdd and the cdr-w on different channels
-in the primary position on each

so i'd have hdd and creative cd on one, the cdr-w and zip on the other

likely nothing to do with the diszip or your other questions

    - just a few cdn cents thrown in on a quiet night ;)
