I am my boyfriend's tech support, but this problem is out of my league. Your help would be much appreciated.

He is running XP, using the built-in burning utility. He can use his disc drive to read and it will eject as normal. However, if he has burned a disc (CD-R or DVD) the drive freezes up and will not eject until after a restart. No error codes, just freezes up until restart. When he has restarted and retrieves the disc, is has burned correctly and is readable.

Does anyone have an idea of what is going wrong here? I've scanned some forums and found various issues with write speed (our current disc spool is Memorex CD-R 52x 700MB) and problems with this or that software, but he is using the built in utility for XP, which I believe is a Roxio driver? Any solutions would be oh so appreciated.

    Thanks in advance!

    Any other burning applications installed?

Not currently. He used to have Nero installed, but the HD was completely reformatted a few months ago.

It sounded like a problem that used to occur with InCD. Check what apps are running in Task Manager---there may be something there that is locking the drive. Do you see any candidates or any you don't recognize?

Is this in an account that has full administrative privileges?

He is running as admin, but I'm not home right now to pull up processes. We'll take a look at it tonight and/or run a hijackthis log and let you know. Thanks so much for tuning in to help!!
